The most basic wedding ceremony music setup involves five/six types of songs:
- Preludes : played prior to the beginning of the actual ceremony.It usually begins when the doors open, or as early as 30 minutes prior to but no later than 15 minutes before the beginning of the ceremony. The music is light, usually classical pieces or slow modern/pop songs that sets the mood while guests are being seated and waiting for the ceremony to begin.
- Processionals: played as the wedding party and important guests are seated (family, bridal party) The same song can be used for the bride's entrance.
- Bride Entrance Song : played as the bride walks down the aisle
- Recessionals : played as the couple and wedding party leaves the ceremony
You can choose to add interludes (unity candle, special music, and transition songs) and and postlude song ( played as the couple and wedding party leaves the ceremony)
Here are some popular ensembles to consider:
String Duo (two violins, violin and viola or violin/viola and cello)
String Trio (violin, viola and cello)
String Quartet (two violins, viola, and cello)
Piano and String Duo (piano, violin and cello)
Piano and String Trio ( piano, violin, viola and cello)
Piano and String Quartet (piano,two violins, viola and cello)
Flute and String Duo (flute, violin, and cello)
Piano, String Duo and Wind (piano, flute/saxophone/trumpet, violin and cello)
You might consider adding harp to any of the trios or the quartet.
